Spitzkoppe, my next destination is not that far from Swakopmund. The last part of the route leads over a wavy road that gives you a beautiful view of the mountains.

Spitzkoppe has a limited number of camping pitches, about thirty, scattered over a very large area. The chance that you have a view of your neighbors is quite small. If you're traveling alone that's less cozy. Sanitary facilities are very limited, there is no water at the campsite and no electricity, washing facilities are only at the entrance near the reception . That is almost not walkable, so you have to go by car, but with a roof tent that is still a lot of hassle. The camping pitches have ‘long drop’ dry toilets, around which a screen has been built. The site is primitive, but still worthwhile.

The whole area is full of beautiful places, but a highlight is the rock arch that can be found here. A part of the movie ‘A Space Odyssey’ is shot here. The camping pitches 4 to 7 are close to the rock arch (the bridge), so you can easily drop by when the weather conditions change and great opportunities present themselves.

With a little searching, there is an easy route to the arch for most people it is doable. You have to go through a very narrow passage. With overweight you will not get through. For this route you have to walk past the arch and then turn left to find your route between the rocks. The route that most people take is quite steep which is not feasible for everyone, certainly not if you have to bring a lot of equipment.
